There are two main types—Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin. Immune-system problems and age may increase the chances of developing lymphoma.
Hodgkin lymphoma is slightly more common in males. It can occur in both young adults and individuals over age 55, especially in people infected with the Epstein-Barr virus at some time in their life.
Non-Hodgkin lymphoma can occur at any age. It is most common between the ages of 60 and 70, especially in individuals with weakened immune systems from conditions such as an organ transplant or HIV and AIDS.
