Communicate directly with your doctor in MyChart. Self-scheduling is available for most imaging tests, and many locations offer same-day or next-day appointments.
Computed tomography (CT) scans help our care teams diagnose injuries, detect disease, plan treatments, or just confirm that everything looks normal. By taking detailed images of bones, organs, and tissues at many different angles, a CT scan can reveal information that might not show up on a standard X-ray.
This is a high-speed CT scan that captures images very quickly, reducing blurs created by motion and improving image quality. It's particularly useful for cardiac imaging where rapid heartbeats can affect the clarity of the images.
These scanners are designed to be more open and less confining than traditional machines. This makes them more comfortable for patients who experience claustrophobia. These scanners can be used for some, but not all, types of scans.
Most procedures take from as little as ten minutes to up to 90 minutes, depending on the type of scan. For your visit, wear comfortable clothes without metal features, leave your jewelry and valuables at home, and make sure to check with your doctor about eating and drinking prior to the procedure. CT scans are typically not painful, though there may be some discomfort. Sometimes a mild sedation can be provided. If you have questions before your procedure, you can communicate directly with your care team in MyChart or ask your care team when you arrive.
