Our mission is to train residents to provide compassionate, extraordinary care to a diverse population. The Psychiatry Residency Program is designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience that prepares physicians to meet the demands of contemporary psychiatry practice in urban and suburban community hospitals, community mental health clinics, and a variety of ambulatory settings. Our approach to mental disorders, including developmental disabilities, trauma-related disorders, and substance use disorders, includes an appropriate balance emphasizing both psychotherapy and psychopharmacology. Our program places strong emphases on the value of evidence-based medicine and biopsychosocial psychiatry. Residents learn to provide patient- and family-centered care, contributing to the health and well-being of patients throughout the community. We attempt to retain our graduates to continue serving our community as clinicians and educators who make meaningful contributions to their community and the field of psychiatry.
