Multiple Myeloma

There’s no way to prevent multiple myeloma. Some people may not even experience symptoms until it shows up during a routine blood or urine test.

Symptoms may include:

• Bone pain
• Constipation
• Fatigue
• Frequent thirst and urination
• Muscle weakness

Risk factors may include:

• Being male
• Having a sibling or parent with multiple myeloma
• Having monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS)
• Your age (most people are diagnosed in their late 60s)
• Your race (Blacks have a higher incidence than other races)

If you are experiencing symptoms of myeloma, your doctor may recommend a urine and/or blood test.

Active monitoring
