Corewell Health Dearborn Hospital has proudly served residents across Southeast Michigan since 1953. With 632 beds, it is a major teaching and research hospital and home to three medical residency programs in partnership with Wayne State University School of Medicine. Corewell Health Dearborn Hospital is verified as a Level II trauma center and accredited by the Joint Commission as a primary stroke center. The hospital is also known for clinical excellence and innovation in the fields of orthopedics, neurosciences, women: heart and vascular and cancer care.
The pharmacy department at Corewell Health Dearborn Hospital provides comprehensive pharmacy services for 650+ inpatients and outpatients. Pharmacists care for patients in a variety of areas, including medical/surgical units, adult critical care units, neonatal intensive care unit, emergency room, operation room, observation unit, ambulatory oncology/internal medicine/infectious disease clinics, and women and children's unit.
The purpose of the PGY-1 pharmacy residency program is to build upon PharmD education and outcomes by contributing to the development of clinical pharmacists who are 1) responsible for pharmacotherapeutic care of patients with a wide range of conditions, 2) eligible for board certification, and 3) strong candidates for acceptance to PGY-2 residency programs.
The PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Corewell Health Dearborn Hospital is a 12-month program accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) designed to prepare the resident for independent practice in a clinical environment. The resident will acquire an extensive skillset and sophisticated clinical experience that will allow for the provision of advanced pharmaceutical care in a wide variety of disease states. Graduates of the residency program will have the ability to practice and teach effectively in multiple settings.
The pharmacy resident will have the opportunity to collaborate with clinical pharmacy specialists and other pharmacists to build upon and gain knowledge in a wide variety of areas and with patients at a variety of levels of care. The PGY-1 residency program will be tailored to the needs of the resident based on previous clinical experience and future interests.
The PGY-1 pharmacy residency program at Corewell Health Dearborn Hospital will give you:
Learning experiences are predominantly in 5-week blocks. Residents will complete all required learning experiences and choose 4 elective learning experiences for the remainder of their schedule. Residents will also complete a series of concurrent extended learning experiences in ambulatory care settings consisting of one half-day every other week. Extended longitudinal learning experiences will span the entire year.

Approved travel to conferences is at the discretion of the organization. Previously attended conferences have included the ASHP midyear clinical meeting if travel funding is available. If travel approved, paid travel expenses (hotel, registration, transportation) for each conference will typically be approved up to $3,000. If expenses are expected to exceed $3,000, approval will be determined on a per-case basis.
