Curriculum

Each resident develops a one-year curriculum in preparation for their specialty training. The resident will be assigned

  • 3 months of internal medicine
  • 1 month ambulatory
  • 1 month general surgery
  • 1 month emergency medicine
  • 1 month ICU
  • 1 month CCU
  • 4 months electives

These assignments will assure appropriate development of the fundamental clinical skills required by the ACGME. Available electives provide flexibility in consideration of individual needs and goals.

Didactics

All disciplines participating in the education of Transitional Year residents encourage involvement in their formal educational activities such as 

  • teaching rounds
  • conferences
  • seminars
  • guest lectures
  • morbidity and mortality conferences
  • grand rounds

Institutional and program-specific conferences provide education in the general competencies required by the ACGME

  • communication skills
  • professionalism
  • systems-based practice

Training in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required for all residents.
