Scope of Service

The Corewell Health system laboratory performs approximately 18 million laboratory tests each year, serving both hospital inpatients and outpatients, as well as a large outreach program.  

The test menu is extensive and includes:  

  • Chemistry panels 
  • Blood gases 
  • Endocrine tests 
  • Cardiac markers 
  • Therapeutic drug monitoring (including immunoassay, LC-MS/MS and GC methodologies) 
  • Tumor markers 
  • Protein and hemoglobin electrophoresis 
  • Hb A1c by HPLC 
  • Toxicology (including GC-MS and LC-MS/MS methodologies) 
  • Biochemical prenatal testing for open neural tube defect and Down syndrome risk assessment 
  • Autoimmune disease testing 
  • Sweat chloride testing 
  • Methane and hydrogen breath testing 

The fellow will gain experience with a large, automated track system and also with a range of other automated instrumentation and more manual procedures, ancillary testing services, and send-out lab operations.
