We provide care for a variety of illnesses and infections with sudden or rapidly-developing symptoms, including:

Common cold

If your child gets frequent, severe colds, your child’s pediatrician can provide guidance on prevention or symptom relief. Colds that last longer than two weeks or lead to a complication (such as an ear infection) might need further evaluation.

Ear infections (otis media)

Painful infection of the middle part of the ear, behind the eardrum. Other symptoms can include pressure sensations and difficulty hearing. Infants with ear infections may show signs by tugging on ears, crying excessively, not responding to sounds, or having difficulty sleeping.

Flu (influenza)

In addition to cold-like symptoms, children with the flu may experience muscle aches, fever, chills, excessive sweating, fatigue, ear pain, nausea, or diarrhea.

Stomach flu (gastrointestinal infections)

When a virus, bacteria, or parasite infects your child’s stomach or lower digestive system, they may experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, belly cramps, or other symptoms.

Strep throat

Infection of the throat and tonsils that often leads to a severe sore throat that develops rapidly and a fever. Because strep infections don’t always get better on their own and may eventually lead to heart or kidney damage, prompt treatment is strongly recommended.

Urinary tract infection (UTI)

Infections of the urinary tract can make it difficult or painful for your child to urinate, and their urine may become foul-smelling, cloudy, or even bloody. They may also experience frequent urges to urinate.

Pediatricians play a primary role in helping children manage previously existing, frequently recurring, or ongoing mental and physical health challenges. We work closely with other members of your child’s care team when specialized expertise is required. Long-term conditions we care for include:

Asthma

Chronic shortness of breath, coughing, tightness in the chest, and other breathing difficulties caused by narrowing of the airways (tubes that carry oxygen to the lungs). Common triggers for symptoms include allergies and exercise.

Developmental delays

If your child is struggling to achieve developmental milestones (such as walking, language skills, or social skills) at the same pace as their peers, we can develop a plan to help them catch up and reach their potential.

Lead poisoning

High levels of lead in the bloodstream significantly increase a child’s risk of long-term health problems, including cognitive disabilities and developmental delays. We provide blood testing to determine if lead poisoning is present and treatment if it is detected.

Mental and behavioral issues

We can help children learn to manage mild-to-moderate mental health or behavioral health concerns, such as anxiety, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and depression.

Our pediatricians evaluate and treat children suffering from common symptoms that can result from a wide variety of underlying infections and conditions. These include:

Fever

Fever is a normal response to infection and can usually be treated at home. Your child may need to see a pediatrician if their fever exceeds 104 degrees Fahrenheit (100 degrees for newborns), lasts more than a few days, or occurs alongside other symptoms (such as headaches, rashes, or vomiting). If your child has a fever, call your pediatrician (24/7 after-hours support is available) for further guidance, or learn more about same-day care options if you do not yet have a pediatrician.

Headaches

If your child is suffering from severe or frequent headaches, it may be a sign of a more serious underlying infection or condition that requires diagnosis and treatment.

Respiratory problems

Respiratory problems such as coughing, sore throat, and difficulty breathing can be caused by many conditions — some mild and temporary, but others more severe. Call your child’s pediatrician if symptoms seem especially severe, frequent, or long-lasting.

Minor injuries like cuts, bruises, mild sprains, and even broken bones that remain stable and properly positioned can often be treated by a pediatrician.

We treat eczema, dermatitis, diaper rash, and other skin conditions that may be persistent, painful, or cause other discomfort for your child. We can help determine the cause of frequent rashes — such as allergies, infections, or environmental factors — and provide guidance on future prevention and care.
