Dietetic Internship

The Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital Dietetic Internship Program is a high quality, immersive post graduate training program designed to prepare motivated individuals for successful entry level practice as registered dietitian nutritionists.

This program is ideal for individuals who have completed an ACEND accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics and hold both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree. Graduate students enrolled in the Oakland University Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Health Systems who meet the dietetic internship requirements are given priority admission.

Program design

The dietetic internship is a 31 week, full time certificate program that emphasizes hands on, experiential learning across clinical, community, food service, and professional practice settings. Interns gain real world experience within a nationally recognized academic medical center, working alongside experienced registered dietitians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.

Through progressive responsibility, applied projects, and direct patient care experiences, interns develop the knowledge, skills, and professional confidence required for entry level practice.

Upon successful completion of the internship—and the master’s degree requirement—graduates are eligible to sit for the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) registration exam.

Program goals

The goals of the dietetic internship program are to:

  • Prepare graduates to become competent entry level registered dietitians
  • Prepare and develop graduates to become leaders in medical nutrition therapy and the nutrition and dietetic profession

These goals are achieved through training, evidence-based practice, and meaningful experiential learning opportunities that reflect the evolving demands of the healthcare environment.

Accreditation status

The Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital Dietetic Internship Program was granted full accreditation in 2013 by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).

The current accreditation term extends through June 30, 2028.
