Family Medicine Residency Curriculum

Year 1

The first year provides residents with well-rounded experiences in traditional internship rotations. Residents will develop their core medical knowledge to learn the necessary skills to provide hospital care. During this year, the resident will hold one (1) half-day of continuity clinic. All first-year residents are expected to pass BLS, ACLS, ALSO, NRP, and PALS. These courses will be provided by Corewell Health Lakeland.

The program includes the following block rotations:

  • 1 Inpatient Pediatrics
  • 1 Outpatient Pediatrics
  • 1 Emergency Medicine
  • 1 Obstetrics
  • 1 Gynecology
  • 1 Psychiatry
  • .5 Orthopedic Surgery
  • 1 General Surgery
  • 1 Cardiology
  • 1 Family Medicine
  • .5 Podiatry
  • 1 Elective
Year 2

The second year will focus on enhancing skills, which will lead to efficiency in managing multiple patients in addition to expanding into more specialties. During this year the resident will hold three (3) half-days of continuity clinic.

In the final year, the resident will be able to manage a variety of patients leading toward graduation and practice as an independent physician. During this year the resident will hold three (3) half-days of continuity clinic.
