Community Medicine

We believe the well-trained family physician of the future will understand the important role a family physician can play in his/her community. We have set up longitudinal relationships with three community clinics (Say Clinic, Pope Francis, Beaumont Teen Health Center River Rouge) to expose our residents to different patient populations and to help serve our community. Faculty also involve residents in activities through our relationship with Healthy Grosse Pointe/Harper Woods.

Recent activities

  • coaches for “Girls on the Run” through YMCA in Detroit
  • longitudinal lectures for a classroom at Harper Woods High School
  • panelists for Grosse Pointe Public Schools, “#OneGP Parent Camp”
  • panelists for CARE of Southeast Michigan Parent Camp

Out of the Darkness Walk and Mental Health Fair

At Corewell Health Beaumont Grosse Pointe Hospital, we are fortunate to have a faculty that understands the impact mental health has on our patients and our resident physicians.

Here our faculty participate in a community outreach event sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) that raises awareness and funds to invest in research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss. The event gives participants the courage to open up about their own struggles and creates a platform to change society’s approach to mental health.

Earthworks Urban Farming

Our residents are giving back to the community while learning about the necessities of organic produce and self-sustainment through Earthworks. Earthworks seeks to promote sustainable agricultural practices, nutrition, and education to the community. All produce that is harvested is distributed among neighborhood residents and utilized in the meals served at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.

Street medicine

The pandemic has brought to light health disparities and implicit bias present in our healthcare system and across the country. Here at Corewell Health Beaumont Grosse Pointe Hospital, we are proud to collaborate with an organization that aims to ensure access to quality medical care for Detroit’s homeless population. Through direct and regular outreach, this organization has been able to address the unique psychosocial and health care needs of our homeless patients.
