Corewell Health believes strongly that the selection of high-quality residents for its graduate training programs is critical to our mission of providing the highest quality education programs. To this end, in compliance with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) institutional requirements, applicants must meet one of the following qualifications to be considered eligible for matriculation into our residency programs:

• Graduate of a Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), accredited medical school in the U.S. or Canada, or
• Graduate of an osteopathic school accredited by the AOA, or
• Graduate of medical school outside the U.S. with a valid certificate from the ECFMG, or
• Graduate of medical school outside the U.S. with a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. licensing jurisdiction, or
• Completed a Fifth Pathway Program provided by an LCME accredited medical school
• Osteopathic candidates must have completed 1 year of residency in an osteopathic program to be eligible to apply in an allopathic program

In addition, residents transferring to a Corewell Health residency training program must submit a written letter of reference from their current program director which must include a statement of their current status in the program. The Program Director must also speak directly with their current program director about this reference. 

Corewell Health participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) to select candidates for its residency programs. All applicants for Corewell Health residency positions are received through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS). Candidates are invited for personal interviews based on their eligibility and selection criteria. Candidates for our residency programs will be ranked and selected according to a composite evaluation of the following and other criteria. Note the minimum criteria for each program varies. Applications for residencies/fellowships must be submitted through ERAS (unless otherwise indicated).

• Do not send any application material to the program director
• if selected for an interview, you will be contacted personally by phone or email, or through the ERAS processing system
  • in some cases, interviews may be arranged before all letters of recommendation are received to accommodate travel schedules
  • only completed applications will receive final consideration
