Interventional Radiology Independent Fellowship

The Division of Interventional Radiology in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital offers a one-year training program in Interventional Radiology accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The IR Independent fellowship offers extensive training by highly qualified subspecialized radiologists. This program offers up to two positions per academic year.

Prior to entering this program, applicants must have successfully completed a residency in an ACGME-accredited program in Diagnostic Radiology.

The aim of the residency is to provide the experiences necessary such that a graduate is proficient in the clinical practice of interventional radiology and able to succeed in either an academic or private practice environment. The trainee successfully completing the fellowship is eligible for subspecialty board examination to obtain a Certificate of Added Qualification in Vascular/Interventional Radiology awarded by the American Board of Radiology.

  • Educational conferences such as multi-disciplinary, morbidity & mortality, IR lectures, and IR Journal Club 

  • All rotations done in house at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital

Goals and objectives

Trainees will

  • Become familiar with the signs and symptoms of disorders amenable to diagnosis and/or treatment by percutaneous methods guided by radiologic imaging
  • Become familiar with the medical and surgical therapeutic alternatives of these disorders
  • Become familiar with the indications and contraindications for vascular and interventional radiologic procedures
  • Gain experience performing preprocedural clinical evaluation of patients and providing postprocedural follow-up care
  • Gain experience in performing and interpreting the spectrum of vascular and non-vascular interventional procedures
  • Gain exposure to new and evolving interventional procedures
  • Gain experience interpreting non-invasive evaluations of vascular diseases of the arterial and venous systems
