Simple ways to eat more fresh foods with every meal
Eating fresh can be as easy as adding a handful of berries to your oatmeal or sprinkling some spinach on your pizza. Small changes add up, and every fresh food you add provides more nutrients to your body.
Breakfast
Add sliced bananas, berries, or dried fruit to cereal, pancakes, or oatmeal
Mix diced peppers, onions, or mushrooms into egg scrambles or omelets
Stir fresh berries, sliced cherries, or pineapple into yogurt
Lunch
Add a layer of cucumber or tomato slices, spinach, or shredded carrots to your sandwich
Mix some fresh fruit into your salad for some extra sweetness. Apples, grapes, and mandarin oranges are all good options.
Stir a cup of frozen veggies into canned or homemade soup
Dinner
If you already have a hot oven going for dinner, add in a sheet pan of veggies — think broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, or sweet potatoes
Double the amount of vegetables called for in any stew or stir-fry. This is also a great way to use up leftover veggies like carrots, corn, peas, or Brussels sprouts.
Veg-ify your sauces by mixing in a cup or two of blended or grated carrot, kale, spinach, or zucchini
Beverages
Add a splash of 100% tart juice like cranberry or pomegranate to your water or lemonade
Stir some sliced strawberries, cucumbers, lemon, or lime into your water to give it some flavor
Add fresh fruit slices or herbs like mint, basil, lavender, or rosemary to the water in your ice trays for an infusion of flavor in iced drinks
