The Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) collects and analyzes data for all transplant programs in the United States. According to the SRTR, Corewell Health’s kidney transplant program consistently performs among the best in the nation. A full report, which includes information about Corewell Health’s Kidney Transplant Program’s waiting list, number of transplants performed, and other valuable information, is available to the public every six months on the SRTR website.

Becoming a living kidney donor

Living donation provides more chances of a transplant for some people in need. Living kidney donor transplants have been performed since 1954 and provide many benefits to the recipient including shortened wait time to transplant, better outcomes, and the ability to improve the quality of life for another person.

There are two types of living donor transplants: living related and living unrelated. A living related kidney may be donated by a blood relative such as a mother, father, sister, brother, son, daughter, cousin, aunt or uncle. A living non-related kidney transplant, sometimes called living unrelated kidney transplant, includes anyone who is living but not blood related, such as a spouse or a friend. A person who wishes to donate to a person with whom they have no connection is called an altruistic donor. If you are not eligible to donate, options like the Kidney Paired Donation program are also available.

If you are interested in being a living donor, please read Your Kidney Donation Decision Booklet, complete the donor questionnaire, and sign consent for initial blood work.

Completed questionnaire and consent can be emailed to kidneytransplantdonor@corewellhealth.org or mailed to:
