If you are a UnitedHealthcare member with commercial or individual (including Exchange) insurance, this page contains information about potential changes regarding your coverage of services received at Corewell Health facilities and from Corewell Health providers. 

Corewell Health’s commercial and individual (including Exchange) contract with UnitedHealthcare is expiring. Without a contract renewal, Corewell Health facilities and providers in Southeast Michigan will be out of network for specific commercial and individual (including Exchange) plans, starting January 1, 2026.

Corewell Health is having conversations with UnitedHealthcare to determine health care coverage rates for facility and professional services in Southeast Michigan. The outcome of this process determines how much UnitedHealthcare pays for patients who receive services from Corewell Health facilities and providers.

Fast facts:

• For years, UnitedHealthcare has raised premiums while reimbursing Corewell Health hospitals in Southeast Michigan at rates significantly lower than it pays other hospitals and applying annual increases well below inflation, or no increase(s) at all.
  • Premiums are the fee you, as a patient, pay to your insurance provider for coverage.
• Reimbursement rates for hospitals in Michigan continue to be among the bottom 10% in the nation.
  • Reimbursement rates are the amounts of money a health insurer pays to a health care provider to cover services.
• Inflation, labor costs, and pharmaceutical costs have rapidly increased in recent years, leaving local hospitals disproportionally responsible for protecting affordability for patients while insurers increase profits. 

Corewell Health facilities and providers in Southeast Michigan are still covered by UnitedHealthcare plans through December 31, 2025.

Here are the dates when certain facilities and providers where you may receive services may become out of network:

• December 31, 2025: Oakwood Healthcare facilities, including Corewell Health Dearborn Hospital, Corewell Health Taylor Hospital, Corewell Health Trenton Hospital and Corewell Health Wayne Hospital
• April 30, 2026: Botsford General Hospital employed providers
• June 30, 2026: William Beaumont Hospital facilities, including Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital, Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital and Corewell Health Beaumont Grosse Pointe Hospital
• July 31, 2026: Botsford General Hospital facilities, including Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital
• July 31, 2026: Oakwood Healthcare, Inc. employed providers
• September 14, 2026: William Beaumont Hospital employed providers

If you are a UnitedHealthcare member who uses Medicare or Medicaid, your coverage will not be impacted. 

Without a fair rate agreement, Corewell Health might not be able to fund the gap left by UnitedHealthcare's failure to adequately reimburse the care our communities need.

If an agreement is not reached, the Corewell Health facilities and providers in Southeast Michigan, including those listed above, will become out of network for commercial and individual (including Exchange) UnitedHealthcare members, potentially requiring you to pay out-of-pocket, seek care from a different physician or at a different facility, or seek alternative health care insurance coverage options.

You should consult with UnitedHealthcare and your physician regarding your individual situation. To ensure that Corewell Health facilities and providers remain in your network, you may wish to change your health insurance to another issuer who will remain contracted with Corewell Health in Southeast Michigan, such as Priority Health.
