About our rehabilitation unit

Since 2011, the Corewell Health Grand Rapids Hospitals Rehabilitation Unit at Blodgett Hospital has been a trusted place of healing for more than 10,000 patients recovering from serious life changes. Our 44-bed inpatient acute rehabilitation program is internationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF™), reflecting our commitment to high-quality care.

Our team is dedicated to helping patients regain strength, independence, and quality of life. The members of our interdisciplinary team have years of experience and specialty training, making us experts in the rehabilitation field.  With a focus on healing the whole person, we individualize care based on your needs and goals. 

Who we serve  

We provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to hundreds of patients each year for a wide range of conditions including those with intensive neurological, orthopedic, and other rehab needs. Our program specializes in stroke recovery, brain injury rehabilitation, and amputation care. Conditions we commonly treat include:

• Stroke
• Brain injury (traumatic and non-traumatic)
• Amputation
• Isolated or multiple trauma
• Orthopedic conditions
• Incomplete spinal cord injury or dysfunction
• Parkinson’s disease
• Multiple sclerosis
• Guillain-Barré syndrome
• Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) 

• Organ transplant (heart and lung) 

Services provided

• Medical rehabilitation
• 24/7 nursing care
• Therapy services – Average of three hours daily, five days per week
• Onsite access to specialty services (example neurology, neuropsychology, and others)
• Onsite lab, radiology, and pharmacy services
• Wound care services
• Swallow assessment procedures (Videofluoroscopic Swallow Study - VFSS, Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing - FEES)
• Functional electronic stimulation for the lower and upper extremities muscles
• Neuromuscular electrical stimulation for swallowing impairments provided by Ampcare certified therapists
