In the areas of clinical research, fellows may work with any number of mentors in hematology malignancies and solid tumor programs at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital as well as the bone marrow transplant program at Karmanos Cancer Institute. Support is available for clinical research from the proper sources by the fellows in cooperation with mentors on clinical trial methodology, biostatistics, and support from the community oncology research program. The hematology oncology fellowship program is an excellent opportunity for clinical exposure in the field of hematology oncology with an emphasis on the outpatient management and inpatient management of the complications of cancer and treatment.
Hematology oncology fellows will spend a total of seven months during their time here in the fellowship performing a clinical or translational research project. It is mandatory that fellows complete a research project prior to graduation. The clinical research projects are in collaboration with the faculty members and basic research scientists on our campus. Fellows are encouraged to publish or present their research at a national meeting.
