Creating a new health system. For Michigan, By Michigan.®
Formed from two leading health systems in Michigan (Beaumont Health and Spectrum Health), Corewell Health is a not-for-profit health system that provides care and coverage with an exceptional team of 64,000+ dedicated people—including more than 11,500 physicians and advanced practice providers and more than 15,000 nurses offering services in 22 hospitals, 300+ outpatient locations and several post-acute facilities—and Priority Health, a provider-sponsored health plan serving over 1.2 million members across the state of Michigan. Through experience, innovation and collaboration, we are building a system designed to meet the needs of the people we serve through care and coverage that is simple, affordable, equitable and exceptional.
We believe health care decisions are made best locally. That is why we have been intentional in creating a structure for our new system that will empower team members and leaders throughout the organization to make the best decisions for their local teams and communities, while ensuring unity and consistency at the system level.
Within the Corewell Health system are four divisions: Corewell Health East (formerly Beaumont Health), Corewell Health South (formerly Spectrum Health Lakeland), Corewell Health West (formerly Spectrum Health) and Priority Health. Each division is led by a president and governed by a dedicated division board.
Our board of directors governs at the system level. The board includes seven members appointed by Corewell Health East, seven members appointed by Corewell Health West, the Corewell Health President & CEO, and one new Board member.
As a health system that effectively and efficiently integrates health care services and coverage, our aim is to:
by gathering the input of physicians, nurses and other team members, and fostering a culture that attracts and retains top health professionals to live and work in Michigan
We recognize our communities and team members will have questions, and we are committed to sharing updates throughout this process.
Corewell Health East and Corewell Health West remain committed to investing in our communities and existing infrastructure. Specific capital business plans already approved by the respective boards will continue as planned. Future major capital investments will be considered by the new health system Board of Directors with input and direction from local boards, management and physicians.
The efficiencies we create as a new organization will enable increased capital investment. Examples of capital needs include: medical education, private rooms, digital and innovative medical technologies, physician offices, behavioral health and outpatient facilities, as well as basic infrastructure needs.
Academics and research will be integral to the new organization. Through collaboration with medical and other professional schools, including Oakland University, Wayne State University and Michigan State University, the new organization will serve as a leading teaching and learning institute, fostering innovation to always remain at the forefront of medicine.
Corewell Health will have dual headquarters in Grand Rapids and Southfield. The President & CEO and the senior executive leadership team will spend time on both sides of the state.
