There are five main types of gynecologic cancers to regularly monitor and discuss with a doctor.
Because symptoms of cervical, ovarian, uterine (endometrial), vaginal, and vulvar cancers can have subtle symptoms, downplaying them can make a later diagnosis more serious and treatment challenging.
That’s why yearly well-woman visits with a pelvic exam are essential. They can be done by a gynecologist, midwife, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant with women's health training. Many primary care doctors also cover well-woman exams as part of their routine care services.
There may be exceptions to the above guidelines. Consult with a Corewell Health medical doctor to determine if you should be checked for gynecologic cancers more frequently.
