The Corewell Heath Palliative Team and Children's Hospice (PATCH) program cares for children who have a serious or life-limiting illness and guides and supports families through difficult decisions.
Kids should still be kids. Our compassionate team focuses on easing pain and improving quality of life so children can spend meaningful time doing what they love with the people who love them.

- A board-certified hospice and palliative family physician specializing in hospice and palliative medicine who coordinates symptom management with your child's doctors
- A pediatric registered nurse who provides routine visits and 24/7 on-call availability
- A social worker who offers counseling and guidance for your child and family
Based on your child’s needs and preferences, the care team may also include:
- Art and music therapists

Pediatric palliative care
The PATCH program helps children with complex, serious, or life-limiting health problems who need palliative care.

Services can begin at diagnosis or at any stage of illness. Palliative care is not only for terminal illness or end-of-life situations. Children can receive palliative care while continuing treatments to cure or slow the progression of their illness.
Our specialists work closely with your child’s medical team to manage symptoms such as pain, fatigue, nausea, and anxiety. Our goal is to ease discomfort and improve overall well-being.
Pediatric hospice care
The PATCH program supports children nearing the end of life. When appropriate, some children may continue treatments aimed at slowing the progression of their illness while in hospice.
Our in-home hospice services allow children to receive care in a familiar and loving environment. We prioritize their comfort, dignity, and quality of life.

- Assists with end-of-life planning

Support for families
PATCH volunteers can spend time with your child so you can rest or be with your family. We also can connect you with educational and community resources.

The PATCH prenatal program supports mothers and families who learn during pregnancy that their baby has a life-limiting condition or may not survive through birth. We provide compassionate care and guidance from the moment of diagnosis.
