Visiting Learner Program for Medical Students

Thank you for your interest in the Visiting Medical Student Program at Corewell Health Lakeland. An affiliate of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, a regional campus of Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine and Central Michigan University College of Medicine, our physicians are eager to share their knowledge and skills with students.  The abundance of resources provided by our residency programs, on-site lectures, educational facilities, including an on-site accredited simulation training center, create an excellent clinical learning environment.  We believe this will be an outstanding training experience for you.

Domestic students who have completed their core clinical training and will be in the fourth year of medical education at their LCME- or AOA- accredited medical schools can apply for a clerkship audition rotation if you are applying to one of the following specialties for residency; emergency medicine, family medicine or internal medicine, at Corewell Health Lakeland through VSLO.  We highly recommend applying at least three (3) months prior to your preferred start date because our clerkship slots tend to fill up far in advance.

We ask that visiting students DO NOT contact departments directly. If you have any questions, please email our GME coordinator, Inana Muzumara at inana.muzumara@corewellhealth.org.

Visiting medical students have an opportunity to become an active member of a medical team, including:

  • Attending teaching rounds
  • Taking patient histories
  • Performing physical examinations
  • Assisting with various procedures
  • Attending departmental conferences
