A quote that always stood out to me was “I found the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have.” During residency we can teach the medicine and how to be a functional emergency physician, however it is the resident whose hard work and dedication to their craft that can make them a great physician.
Emergency medicine is a complex and evolving specialty. It requires the ability to quickly adapt and manage multiple issues at one time. It requires a special type of physician who will care for all patients regardless of their social or economic situation.
At our program, we are committed to teaching you the foundation of medicine to handle those emergencies and equipping you with the procedural skills necessary to treat those cases. In addition to the fundamentals of emergency medicine, we focus on teaching compassionate care of our patients, the ins and outs of billing, and focusing on our own wellness. In our department, we work together as a team. We collaborate on cases in support of our residents; discussing cases in real time, educating and enjoying each other’s company. We are fortunate to serve our incredibly diverse community with both an urban and suburban population. With our unique patient population, we treat a wide array of pathology which is ideal for training resident physicians and students.
One thing that stands out about our program is the family atmosphere we have created. This is incredibly important to me as the program director as we spend weekends, holidays and nights together. And when you leave our program you will be part of a long tradition of well-trained emergency physicians that span coast to coast. We hope you will consider joining our tradition.
