Clinical responsibilities and teaching

Residents receive comprehensive, and well-rounded clinical experience through rotations across general dermatology, complex medical dermatology, cosmetic dermatology, and dermatologic surgery.

In order to pursue special interests, residents electively rotate in:

  • Pediatric dermatology
  • Dermatopathology
  • Mohs surgery
  • Cosmetic dermatology
  • Plastic surgery

Additionally, residents perform inpatient dermatology consultations at Corewell Health Farmington Hills (330 bed) and Corewell Health Royal Oak (1131 bed) and work in an independent continuity clinic weekly, fostering autonomy and longitudinal patient care experience. Residents take on teaching responsibility throughout the year, providing lectures to interns, medical students, and/or residents in other specialties.

Conferences

Residents are expected to attend both the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology (AOCD) and the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) annual meetings. Additional conference attendance is supported and encouraged based on resident interest.

Community outreach

Residents participate in meaningful medical outreach opportunities, including:

  • Laser tattoo removal clinic
  • Homeless street clinic
  • Optional international medical mission trips

Medical student education

Medical students are welcomed and encouraged to rotate with the program, working directly with core faculty and participating in resident clinics to gain further dermatology experience.
