Our fellowship is grounded in a rigorous and comprehensive clinical foundation. During the first two years, fellows gain extensive exposure across all domains of cardiovascular care, managing complex disease in a high-acuity environment while developing advanced competency in invasive and non-invasive cardiology. The volume and complexity of our patient population allow fellows to build confidence early and to function comfortably across intensive care, procedural settings, and longitudinal patient care.

A defining strength of our program is the structure of the third year. Fellows complete core clinical requirements early, creating substantial elective time that can be aligned with individual career goals. This time may be used to pursue advanced subspecialty training, develop an academic focus, deepen expertise in imaging or procedures, or prepare for independent practice. With close mentorship, this structure supports a thoughtful transition from broad clinical training to focused professional development with increasing autonomy.

The mission of the Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program is to prepare physicians for the independent practice of cardiovascular medicine through comprehensive clinical training, progressive responsibility, scholarly inquiry, and patient-centered care.

We are committed to developing cardiologists who demonstrate clinical excellence, professionalism, sound judgment, and compassion while serving the communities of Southeast Michigan. Through exposure to tertiary, community, and ambulatory practice environments, fellows acquire the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to excel across the full spectrum of contemporary cardiovascular medicine.

The cardiovascular disease fellowship program aims to:

• Train highly competent cardiologists capable of independently diagnosing, managing, and treating cardiovascular disease across a broad range of clinical settings
• Provide diverse clinical experiences and progressive responsibility that prepare fellows to effectively manage complex cardiovascular conditions in acute care and outpatient environments
• Develop expertise in evidence-based cardiovascular medicine, critical appraisal of medical literature, and lifelong learning
• Foster professionalism, ethical practice, effective communication, and patient centered care
• Prepare graduates to successfully pursue careers in academic medicine, community practice, advanced subspecialty training, research, education, and leadership
