Women in Emergency Medicine

Our program recognizes that women in emergency medicine face unique challenges. We are committed to supporting our female residents by fostering allyship and providing meaningful opportunities for connection throughout residency and beyond.

We host two annual events with protected time for our female residents to gather in a fun, supportive setting to discuss these challenges. Recent events include:

• A wine tasting at a local female-owned winery
• A Thai cooking class at the Culinary Cottage in our local market
• A mocktail class hosted by Precision Syrups, a local small business

In addition to these structured events, we also have a female book club that meets every other month to encourage community and conversation.

We are proud to be a supporting member of the annual SW Michigan Women in Medicine Symposium, a powerful gathering that celebrates mentorship, leadership, and the remarkable contributions of women across the medical field. The event focuses on empowering women in medicine through connection, inspiration, and shared growth. It’s a space where stories are shared, careers are elevated, and community is strengthened.

Lakeland residents and students receive complimentary access to the symposium, ensuring they can fully engage in this enriching and inspiring experience.
