The Surgery Residency at Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital is constantly evolving and improving its curriculum. The goal of our five-year ACGME program is to train general surgeons who can enter private practice anywhere, either in a metropolitan or rural area; complete a surgical subspecialty fellowship; or pursue an academic surgical career. Our residency has a long history of graduating successful surgeons and our graduates have obtained competitive fellowships.
Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital alumni have become leaders in our profession locally and across the country. Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital has received ACGME initial accreditation and has ACGME compliant curriculum, assessment tools, metrics, APDS Level 1 Skills Lab.
Our program is affiliated with the Statewide Campus System with Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM). The affiliation with MSUCOM allows for an intensive academic exposure throughout the five years of residency. A PGY-1 boot camp in skills training is required as part of our orientation skills lab curriculum.
Our program follows the ACS SCORE curriculum. We have an integrated skills lab training and robotic training on-site as well as team and advanced simulation lab training at the Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital campus. Our program will follow SAGES and Southern Illinois University simulation curriculum.

Our mission is to train surgery residents to provide compassionate, extraordinary care to a diverse population. The Surgery Residency Program at Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital is designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience that prepares physicians to meet the demands of a contemporary surgical practice in urban and suburban community hospitals. In alignment with our Institutional mission, Residents learn to provide patient-and family-centered care, contributing to the health and well-being of patients throughout the community. We attempt to retain our graduates to continue to serve our community. To accomplish our mission, we have developed a strong clinical curriculum that prioritizes education over service, and an educational structure that values residents as a group and as individuals with separate learning needs and ambitions.
The combined Beaumont Health Spectrum Health system has adopted an overall Mission to “Improve health, instill humanity, and inspire hope”, which we feel is consistent with our stated GME Mission Statement.
