Corewell Health offers a one-year ACGME-approved fellowship in diagnostic cytopathology (10 months cytology and 2 months elective rotations), beginning July 1 and extending through June 30. This program provides access to an outstanding range of cytological cases (77,526 GYN, 6,448 non-GYN, and 2,902 FNA) representing all of the major organ systems and specimen types typically encountered in the practice of cytopathology.
The fellow participates in all aspects of cytopathology, including interpretation of gynecologic, non-gynecologic and fine-needle aspiration specimens. Sign-out responsibilities in cytopathology are graduated and based on the level of experience of the fellow. The trainee participates in rapid on-site evaluations (ROSE) of endobronchial ultrasound-guided FNAs, endoscopic ultrasound-guided FNAs, and FNAs performed with image guidance in interventional radiology on weekly basis.
Additionally, the fellow is actively involved in teaching activities of pathology residents and rotating medical students from Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. The fellow is involved in at least one research project during the fellowship year. Ancillary techniques such as immunocytochemistry, flow-cytometry, and molecular pathology are available for such purpose.
