The maternal-fetal medicine fellowship at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital offers a three-year fellowship-training program, which is accredited by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and accepts one fellow each academic year. The clinical and research-oriented fellowship is designed to provide advanced education and training in the care of the pregnant patient and her fetus, prenatal diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, clinical and didactic teaching skills, and developing research skills. The fellowship offers a full scope of clinical experience in high-risk obstetrics and prenatal genetics. Educational objectives are organized according to Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology competencies. It is our goal that upon completion of training, our maternal-fetal medicine fellows will have completed all of the ACGME requirements for subspecialty board certification and will be well-qualified for a clinical and research career in maternal-fetal medicine.
The Fetal Imaging Center is staffed by MFM specialist, pediatric radiologist, ultrasound technologists and genetic counselors. The center provides obstetrical ultrasound, reproductive genetics, fetal therapy. The genetic counselors help to arrange multi-disciplinary assessments for complex antepartum patients, generally those with fetal anomalies, which includes counseling, care planning and disposition for subsequent care in the obstetrics and neonatology units of the hospital. The Center performs more than 21,100 ultrasound procedures yearly. Our academic environment, faculty educators, case acuity, diversity and volume of complicated pregnancies provide a strong foundation for our comprehensive fellowship training program in maternal-fetal medicine.
Our MFM ambulatory service is provided at 3 different centers; the Women’s Subspecialty Clinic is located in Beverly Hills about 1 mile from the hospital, Maternal Fetal Medicine & Fetal Imaging is located about 6 miles away in the Troy Regional Hospital and there is a Fetal Imaging Unit in Grosse Pointe. Ultrasound technologists perform fetal imaging at all centers under supervision of MFM specialist. MFM provide full obstetrical care for high-risk patients at Women’s Subspecialty Clinic. MFM consultations for referrals from obstetricians are offered at Beverly Hills and Troy.

The maternal-fetal medicine fellowship is a three-year program that accepts one fellow per academic year. The fellowship was first certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2014 and received ACGME accreditation in 2016. Since our first graduate completed training in 2019, we have proudly graduated one fellow each year, all of whom have successfully transitioned into a variety of practice settings.
Our mission is to prepare maternal-fetal medicine fellows to deliver compassionate, exceptional care to patients while advancing the field through teaching and research. Fellows receive comprehensive training in all aspects of maternal-fetal medicine, including detailed fetal sonography and echocardiography, reproductive genetics in collaboration with experienced genetic counselors, and diagnostic procedural skills. They also develop as educators through teaching opportunities with residents and medical students and gain experience in research design and execution.
