Dedicated inpatient rehabilitation

Inpatient rehabilitation is our solution for your short-term rehabilitation after serious illness, serious injury, and some major surgeries. We help patients with many different medical needs and conditions, including but not limited to stroke, brain injury, amputation, trauma, spinal cord injury, or burns.

With Corewell Health, your rehabilitation journey is guided by experts. In addition to around-the-clock nursing care, a dedicated rehabilitation physician or advanced practice provider will visit you regularly to discuss your goals, treatment progress, discharge plans, and post-discharge care arrangements. Our goal is to help you recover safely and quickly so you can get back to daily life. Working by your side, we strive to help you meet your goal.

Is inpatient care for you?

To receive inpatient care, you need the ability to participate in three hours of therapy per day, five days per week and an ability to return home or to the community after therapy. Please also note that your condition has to demonstrate the need for 24 hour nursing care and close physician monitoring, and of course require physical or occupational therapy care.

The care journey

There are several factors to a successful rehabilitation, and we go out of our way to provide them. These include:

Goal-setting
Setting personal goals is an important first step to your rehabilitation journey. After all, your determination is the key to your success. Your care team will meet with you to discuss your abilities and limitations and help you set realistic goals.

Open communication
We believe in open, ongoing communication between you and your care team. Our goal is to answer all your questions so that you are fully equipped to return home.

Rehab and rest
During your stay, you will participate in at least three hours of therapy per day, five days per week. Because optimal healing requires rest, you will dedicate at least one full day to it.

Caregiver training
Caregivers are encouraged to participate in education and training throughout your stay. A caregiver can be a family member, friend, or neighbor who will help you manage your care needs once you are home. If one isn’t available, we may be able to help.

Ongoing education
We want you to be well informed. For this reason, you will receive daily education throughout your stay as well as focused guidance on how to manage your specific condition and medications.

A safe transition home
As you prepare to leave, our care team will help you practice important transitional skills such as getting in and out of a car and managing medications. We may also conduct a home evaluation to assess your safety and mobility at home.
