Care for every age

A primary care physician (PCP) partners with you throughout your health care journey. They get to know you and your medical history, offering answers and support when you have questions or concerns.

Corewell Health primary care doctors across Michigan provide expert care for all stages of life. They are highly trained in internal medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine-pediatrics, family medicine, and geriatrics.

How to choose a primary care doctor

When choosing a primary care physician, consider who needs care — yourself, your child, your entire family, or an aging parent.

Your age, a new diagnosis, or a chronic health condition can also help you decide the type of primary care doctor who is the best fit.

What is a primary care doctor?

A primary care doctor treats a wide range of health conditions. Even if you feel healthy, routine visits can help catch health concerns early, when they are easiest to treat.

Typically, primary care doctors:

  • Perform annual physical exams and provide vaccinations.
  • Manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure, including prescribing medications.
  • Recommend bloodwork, health screenings, and referrals to specialists when needed.

Your doctor provides more care than you might expect. They can assess and treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), perform skin checks, remove noncancerous moles, and prescribe birth control.

Types of primary care doctors

Some physicians care for all ages, while others focus on specific age groups.
