What excites you about your residency/fellowship at Corewell Health in West Michigan? I am excited to continue serving this wonderful and diverse community, to learn from excellent faculty and co-residents, and to be part of a program with such a supportive and caring culture!

Clinical interests: I am interested in palliative care and med/peds primary care. In general, I'm passionate about patient-centered communication, evidence-based medicine, and motivational interviewing/behavior change.

Hobbies: Everything outdoors! Especially running, hiking, biking, skiing, and sailing. I also love knitting, cooking/baking, playing the cello, reading, and watching a good movie or show.

What excites you about your residency/fellowship at Corewell Health in West Michigan? During my away rotation, I appreciated the community-like atmosphere while being an academic medical center. I am excited about the catchment area of Helen DeVos Children's Hospital which provides excellent pediatric training with diverse pathology. I also experienced the high acuity of Corewell Health Butterworth hospital, so I know this program will make me a well-rounded Internist and Pediatrician! In addition, my wife is from Grand Rapids and we are looking forward to enjoying the beautiful seasons, lakeshore, and outdoor adventures West Michigan has to offer with family and friends!

Clinical interests: I am interested in dual hospital medicine, critical care, and transitional primary care for complex pediatric patients.  I am also interested rural medicine and/or global health.

Hobbies: I enjoy playing sports such as pickleball, soccer, volleyball and tennis in my free time. My wife and I also enjoy being outside, camping, and hiking, so we are excited to be living in West Michigan to explore new places. We also love being in the kitchen and trying new recipes.

What excites you about your residency/fellowship at Corewell Health in West Michigan? I'm looking forward to seeing the west side of Michigan and continuing to care for patients in my home state.

Clinical interests: While I haven't entirely narrowed it down, I'm interested in transitions of care. I do think I'll pursue fellowship after residency, and would love to be able to integrate subspecialty transitions of care into my future practice.

Hobbies: I'm an avid rock climber and ultimate frisbee player, and also recently have gotten into pickle ball and golf. Otherwise, I also enjoy board games, creative writing, cooking, and cheering on my Michigan State Spartans (Go Green!) and Detroit Sports teams.

What excites you about your residency/fellowship at Corewell Health in West Michigan? I love that Grand Rapids offers training in a large tertiary/quaternary center for internal medicine and pediatrics. This offers a broad patient population and exposure to a wide variety of conditions, which was my priority. I also loved the program leadership and the residents were super open and friendly!

Clinical interests: I am still deciding on my clinical interests, but I am leaning toward med-peds hospitalist or transitional care for complex medical conditions.

Hobbies: I have a wide range of hobbies depending on my mood! I like to crochet, play with my cats, bake, and (if I have time) binge-watch sitcoms. I also enjoy hiking and dancing!

What excites you about your residency/fellowship at Corewell Health in West Michigan? On my interview day, I was struck by how open and friendly everyone was. I am excited to join the supportive environment of Corewell Health in West Michigan.

Clinical interests: I am still exploring different specialties but cardiology has always been at the top of my list.

Hobbies: I enjoy hiking, playing tennis, baking, and spending time with friends and family!

What excites you about your residency/fellowship at Corewell Health in West Michigan? I ranked this program highly for both its diverse patient pathology and high acuity of care for both the pediatric and internal medicine program. However, I am truly excited to be a part of the Med-Peds family as Dr. Tiesma, Pam and Lauren, and all our residents (including our own Med-Peds and respective categoricals) have created such a positive and welcoming environment already. Being 30 mins away from Lake Michigan during the summer ain't half bad either.

Clinical interests: Primary care

Hobbies: Hiking, biking, singing (too many musicals for most), video games, walking my dog, and trying new restaurants with my wife!

What excites you about your residency/fellowship at Corewell Health in West Michigan? I've enjoyed my time in West Michigan during medical school and look forward to being in the same area for residency. I am also excited to train at Corewell Health Grand Rapids Hospitals Helen DeVos Children's Hospital and Butterworth Hospital as large care centers that serve the majority of West Michigan. Finally, the program leadership and co-residents foster an incredibly supportive environment.

Clinical interests: I currently plan on practicing as a dual hospitalist at a mid-sized hospital, but I am also excited to explore other areas! My main clinical interests include hospital medicine, procedures and ultrasound, and pediatric critical care.

Hobbies: Anything to be outdoors! I love to cross-country ski in the winter, run in the summer, and garden in the spring. I also try to go camping or hiking, especially in the Boundary Waters or UP, at least once every year.

What excites you about your residency at Corewell Health in West Michigan?

I am thrilled at the prospect of training at a tertiary care center that has academic chops without being entirely preoccupied with research output. Everyone from this program that I’ve interacted with, from grads, to attendings, and most of all, current residents, has been effusive and glowing in their praise of the CHW-MSU program. The work-life balance and fringe benefits & salary here are all excellent relative to other residencies. The faculty are passionate, kind, and clearly happy to be here. Grand Rapids and the surrounding areas are wonderful places to live, work and play. Finally, my wife is from the area, and as a former East-side Michigander, I’m very excited to continue my exploration of the West side.

Clinical interests: I’m planning on a career in Primary Care, but I have growing interests in Psychiatry, Preventive Cardiology, Bioethics & Palliative Care. I’m considering a Master’s in Bioethics and potentially the HEC-C certification pathway to practice clinical ethics at some point in my career.

Hobbies: I love trying new restaurants, breweries, parks, trails and travelling in general, especially with my wife and friends! As a Great Books major in college, I’m also a total sucker for literature, philosophy, and the fine arts. Finally, I’m an avid Detroit sports fan, in addition to cheering on Notre Dame football (my alma mater) and MSU basketball (my first love as a kid).

What excites you about your residency/fellowship at Corewell Health? I am excited to join a program that prioritizes excellence in patient care while retaining a compassionate and caring attitude. The team culture here is one of kindness toward one another, which helps us all feel valued and motivated to work hard for our patients throughout the day. Plus, I'm excited to live in the city of Grand Rapids, which I find just the right size and full of a variety of opportunities to enjoy outdoor recreation, great restaurants, and a friendly and approachable downtown.

Clinical Interests: I am interested in the full scope of internal medicine and pediatrics practice and have a special interest in caring for childhood cancer survivors of all ages.

Hobbies: I like to rotate frequently through a wide range of activities, which include tennis, disc golf, table tennis, board games, cooking, music, reading, photography, and movies.
