Why did you choose Lakeland's Family Medicine Program: Lakeland felt special the moment I saw what the program was able to offer. It has beaches, a fun welcoming environment and residents, awesome culinary/lifestyle experiences and stellar teaching faculty. Choosing Lakeland was a slam dunk decision for my wife and I when we couples matched together!

Why did you choose Lakeland's Family Medicine Program: I knew immediately when interviewing here that this was a special and unique program. Between the different opportunities to learn and give back to the community, this program was unbeatable. My husband Bailey and I both really wanted a program with Lifestyle Medicine and this program has the best curriculum I have seen. Lastly, I have always wanted to return to my roots in Michigan and make a life for myself.

Hobbies/interests: On the personal side, I enjoy disc golf (I have even won 2 tournaments), video games (especially RPGs and open world), hiking, dungeons and dragons (or other TTRPGs), board/card games (all kinds, but especially landscape builders and trick-taking games), reading (primarily fantasy and Sci-Fi), and laughing at my own jokes. On the professional side of things, I am interested in procedures, POCUS, educational medicine, and general outpatient family medicine.
Why did you choose Lakeland's Family Medicine Program: Training in lifestyle medicine, obesity medicine, and osteopathic manipulation, strong community engagement, close proximity of clinical sites, intentional focus on resident wellness, and personable atmosphere. Dr. Torres also mentioned my spouse and co-resident, Hannah, by name during my interview and how he was excited to interview her later during the interview season.

Why did you choose Lakeland's Family Medicine Program: Why I chose Lakeland: I chose Lakeland because the residents and faculty made it feel like home. As a student who did not do an audition rotation here, they took extra time to show me the values of the program and what it had to offer. My personal interests that this program offers include rural health, OMM/OMT, sports medicine, and culinary medicine. The location provides new experiences for me to explore, as I look forward to playing sand volleyball and exploring the beaches and local farmers' markets.

Why did you choose Lakeland's Family Medicine Program: I chose Lakeland because of the incredible people I met and the meaningful experiences I had while auditioning as a medical student. Every program says they're like a family, but at Lakeland, it truly felt that way. Everyone was so kind, welcoming, and easy to connect with—they really made me feel like I belonged, even during my short time there. I also fell in love with the culinary medicine program, which was such a unique and inspiring part of the experience. On top of that, the program’s strong focus on resident wellness really stood out to me. And as a bonus, being close to my hometown in Canada makes it all the more special!

Why did you choose Lakeland's Family Medicine Program: After auditioning at Corewell Lakeland, I knew this program was a hidden gem! It provides me the opportunity to further my skills in family medicine as well as focus on areas that interest me within medicine such as osteopathic medicine, addiction medicine, and lifestyle medicine. The rural surrounding areas, as well as kind and supportive faculty and residents made me feel right at home in St. Joseph. I feel confident that Corewell Lakeland will help me develop into the patient-focused, well-rounded physician that I am striving to become!

From day one, the residents and attendings made me feel truly welcomed—both in and out of the clinic. They emphasized hands-on learning, encouraged me, and challenged me in all the right ways. I knew I wouldn’t find a learning environment like this anywhere else—and on the Michigan coast, no less!

Why did you choose Lakeland's Family Medicine Program: I got a good sense of community and camaraderie from my interview. The residents were all so welcoming, and I felt like I would really be supported in this program in both my training as a physician as well as becoming a better person. I love the emphasis Lakeland has on well-being while also pushing the residents to learn. The culinary medicine, lifestyle medicine, and OMM training being all integrated into the curriculum makes me excited to continue learning.

The culinary medicine and the option to take a first-time parents elective proved to me how innovative, individualized, and cultivating the residency experience here is. This program really stood out as the best place to learn and practice medicine in such a beautiful and fun location!

Why did you choose Lakeland's Family Medicine Program: I chose Lakeland because, while I was on an audition rotation, I saw first-hand the kind of learning environment I was looking for in a residency. The attendings and residents were always friendly and open to questions, but they also challenged me educationally. The location of the program and its emphasis on resident well-being were additional positives that influenced my decision.

Why did you choose Lakeland's Family Medicine Program: I auditioned at the program and basically fell in love with it instantly. It has everything I wanted for my training and didn’t think would exist at one program. A heavy emphasis on OMM, training in preventative medicine, culinary medicine, rural leanings. Everyone was super welcoming, and I was comfortable there. It felt like home. I also really liked the location. I had not spent any time on this side of the state before, but I think I may be a west side girl! Lots of open land where you don’t have to see your neighbor, but also no more than 10 minutes from the grocery store.

With its location, I will have ample opportunities to learn and practice while also being within close proximity to a large city if needed. With the excellent training that is provided here, I look forward to growing into a competent, confident physician I envisioned myself being.
