Curriculum

Resident responsibilities

  • directly responsible to the attending surgeon in respect to pre-op preparation of all surgical patients and for post-operative care
  • instruct the intern and any student on the service
  • first-assistant on cesarean sections
  • attend all department meetings and to prepare protocols for all C-Section and Fetal Mortality Revie
  • keep current logs
  • submit one research paper, suitable for publication, or an acceptable alternative project pertinent to the field of obstetrics and gynecology over a four-year period
  • personally conduct all pre-op gyn exams, reviews pre-op data, including all x-ray and laboratory data and are prepared to discuss the case with the attending surgeon
  • examine all patients on the service as required and acts as coordinator to the intern and student on examine all patients on his or her service as required and acts as coordinator to the intern and student on the service
  • should be prepared to assist in all vaginal deliveries
  • make rounds and visitations of all preoperative and postoperative patients with the attending surgeon
  • encouraged to do clinical research under the aegis of the Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology and the Research Review Committee of the Intern/Resident Training Committee

The resident does not

  • act as a professional consultant for general staff physicians
  • participate in any professional or business activity outside the hospital during the term of the residency that interferes with training without approval of the Program Director

Rotation schedule

Year 1

4 months of Obstetrics & 2 months of Gynecology (to include Labor and delivery, office prenatal and postnatal care, obstetrical radiology and ultrasound, infant resuscitation and surgical problems in obstetrics)

1 month of ICU

1 month of ER

1 month of Internal Medicine

1 month of NICU

1 month of Ultrasound

1 month of House Nights

Year 2

5 months of Obstetrics - including nights

5 months of Gynecology

2 months of MFM

In addition to the above curriculum, you will have access to do a Family Planning rotation during one of your OB months during the second year of your residency.

Year 3

10 months of Obstetrics/Gynecology

1 month of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility

1 month of Urogynecology

Year 4

10 months of Obstetrics/Gynecology

1 month of Gynecology Oncology

1 month of an Elective
