Research

Research is a primary focus of the fellowship. Clinical, translational, and basic science research opportunities are supported by our onsite orthopedic research program. Fellows will be required to participate in multiple research projects during the academic year, including:

  • Assisting with development of the research protocol
  • Performing data collection
  • Participating in thorough literature review as well as abstract and manuscript preparation

Protected research time is provided. It is anticipated and expected that studies will result in abstracts presented at state, regional, and national meetings as well as publication in appropriate peer-reviewed journals.

Faculty research interests

  • Retrieved foot and ankle implant analyses
  • Tissue analyses from foot and ankle cases (including protemics-, genomics-, and metabolomics-based characterization)
  • Stem cell mobilization for enhanced healing in achilles tendon repair
  • Titania nanotube surfaces for simultaneous osseointegrative and antibacterial properties in arthroplasty
  • Biomechanical testing of various foot and ankle implants, surgical techniques, etc.
  • Clinical outcomes of foot and ankle surgery patient populations following operative and nonoperative treatments
