Dr. Paul Chittick is a board certified infectious disease and internal medicine physician with more than two decades of clinical, academic, and health system leadership experience. He currently serves as interim chief of internal medicine and interim program director of the infectious diseases fellowship at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. He is also interim chair of internal medicine and associate professor at the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine.
A graduate of Wayne State University School of Medicine, Dr. Chittick completed his internal medicine residency and chief residency at William Beaumont Hospital, followed by an infectious diseases fellowship at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where he served as chief infectious disease fellow.
Dr. Chittick is recognized for his expertise in infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, healthcare epidemiology, transplant infections, and viral hepatitis. He has held numerous leadership roles within Corewell Health, including section head of infectious diseases and international medicine, associate medical director for medical subspecialties, and physician lead for corporate antimicrobial stewardship. He has also served as corporate epidemiologist and led multiple system-wide infectious disease programs, including the COVID-19 therapeutics response for the system.
An accomplished researcher and educator, Dr. Chittick has authored numerous peer reviewed publications, presented at national scientific meetings, and frequently delivers invited lectures and medical grand rounds on topics including antimicrobial stewardship, transplant infections, viral hepatitis, and emerging infectious diseases. He remains actively involved in graduate medical education, faculty development, and mentorship at both the institutional and national levels.
Dr. Chittick’s contributions have been recognized with multiple honors, including Crain’s Detroit Business Health Care Heroes, repeated selection as Hour Detroit Top Doctor, and listings in Best Doctors in America. He is a member of several professional societies, including the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, and continually works to advance patient safety, high value care, and medical education.
