Children’s Miracle Network funding advances care for kids across Southeast Michigan

Since 1988, Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) has partnered with Corewell Health Children’s to fund innovative programs and services that improve care for children and families across Southeast Michigan. Thanks to the generosity of CMN  donors and supporters, the latest round of funding will benefit more than 60 pediatric programs across Corewell Health’s eight Southeast Michigan hospitals and numerous outpatient sites throughout the region.

Among the initiatives receiving support for the first time this year are the Corewell Health East Post-Graduate Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship in Neonatology and the Grow Your Own Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) program. Both programs focus on developing and retaining highly skilled neonatal providers, helping ensure the region’s youngest and most medically complex patients receive exceptional care.

Shannon Smith, regional APP manager in neonatology at Corewell Health East, says the impact of these programs benefits these fragile patients immediately after training.

“NICU patients are among the most medically complex and vulnerable patients we care for, and they require clinicians with highly specialized neonatal knowledge and skills,” Smith said. “NNPs and neonatal APPs play an essential role in caring for critically ill and premature infants from delivery and resuscitation through their NICU hospitalization and transition home.”

CMN funding is also helping address needs beyond the hospital setting. The Corewell Health School Food Pantry and Hygiene Closet, a second-time grant recipient, has supported more than 45,000 students since 2021 by distributing more than one million pounds of food and nearly $200,000 in essential hygiene supplies.

“Funding from Children’s Miracle Network strengthens our ability to provide food and essential hygiene products to students across 60 schools in Wayne County,” said Kari Woloszyk, manager of community health impact at Corewell Health  East. “We are so grateful.”

These programs represent just a few of the many initiatives supported through CMN funding. They reflect the far-reaching impact of donor generosity, which truly helps Corewell Health Children’s provide exceptional care, support and resources for children and families throughout Southeast Michigan.
