Our mission is to develop innovative leaders with advanced practice experience in the speech-language pathology profession through training in evidence-based clinical methods, mentorship, and targeted didactic learning.
Corewell Health West’s Clinical Fellowship Program offers a comprehensive 12-month experience (June–June) designed to provide fellows with advanced clinical training and structured didactic learning in both hospital and outpatient settings. This multi-faculty program fosters mentorship from experienced clinicians, supporting fellows in building a full-time caseload across diverse care environments.
The inpatient hospital rotation will be at Butterworth Hospital, a Level I Trauma Center and accredited Stroke Center. Fellows will rotate through a variety of adult hospital specialty areas, including:
Instrumental swallow studies
The outpatient rotation will be located at the Interdisciplinary Care Center-Beltline Campus. The outpatient experience involves specialization in adult neurological disorders, including, but not limited to:
Fellows will also engage in interdisciplinary observation opportunities to deepen their understanding of collaborative care. Additional professional development includes participation in special interest groups and/or committees within the rehabilitation team, literature reviews to share with faculty, and presentations to internal team members and the broader community.
This is a salaried position with benefits. Fellows are expected to participate in scheduled weekend and holiday rotations as part of the hospital’s coverage model.
At the conclusion of the fellowship, the fellow will earn their Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC), a nationally recognized credential that signifies excellence and readiness to practice independently as a speech-language pathologist. The program’s goal is to ensure fellows are clinically competent, confident, and efficient in both adult hospital and outpatient settings.
Master's degree in speech-language pathology by May 31 of the program year. Provisional license in the state of Michigan.
Mentors in this program are carefully selected for their passion for teaching, expertise in their clinical specialty, and commitment to evidence-based practice. Primary mentors undergo formal mentorship training to ensure they are equipped to provide meaningful guidance and foster the fellow’s professional growth and success throughout the program.
