Our 12-month didactic curriculum encompasses 9 fundamental domains of physical medicine and rehabilitation. The longitudinal curriculum encourages progressive learning and allows residents to apply textbook knowledge to their clinical experiences. Topics range from medical conditions in spinal cord injury to low back pain evaluation to prosthetics and orthotics.
To promote professional development, residents are expected to develop and deliver presentations. During PGY 2, residents are required to present a mortality and morbidity conference and a case report lecture. During PGY 3 and 4, residents are required to present one journal club article and one case report each year.
In addition to formal lectures, our curriculum includes hands-on workshops focusing on aspects of ultrasound application, electrodiagnostic set up, and injection techniques. Residents learn the basics of ultrasound scanning and anatomy correlates for guided injections, and they learn accurate electrode placement for common nerve conduction studies.
