The department of urology has four teaching services
Two senior residents and one junior resident are assigned to each adult service at any given time. Mid-level residents are assigned to the pediatric urology service and transplant. The balance of assignments include clinic electives, travel elective, research, and sub-specialty clinics.
The first postgraduate year in surgery is structured to give residents experience in general surgery with special emphasis on diagnosis, and pre- and post-operative care of the surgical patient. Emphasis is placed on developing basic technical skills through direct operative experience. The call schedule varies with each rotation but averages every 4th night. During urology rotations call is taken from home.
Rotations are as follows
International urology rotations enable resident physicians to become immersed not only in in the culture and traditions of each respective country as well. Due to the prevalence of some illnesses in only certain regions of the world, international electives can expose residents to a greater variety of pathology and disease.
