About

The transitional year residency provides a well-structured medical education program involving multiple clinical disciplines so as to facilitate one's preparation for a specific specialty. During the period of time spent in a broad-based clinical discipline, the resident will develop the skills necessary to obtain an adequate history, perform a competent physical examination, develop a rational basis for investigation and implement therapy based upon etiology, pathogenesis and clinical manifestations of various disease processes.

The provision of primary responsibility for patient care under the supervision of senior residents and faculty is the prelude to development of a mature physician who is able to think and act independently.

Outcomes

All Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital transitional year residents have successfully completed this program and continued in a subspecialty residency program of their choice. Feedback from graduating residents is obtained at the completion of the transitional year and one-year after completion of the transitional year. Consistently high levels of satisfaction are noted from these post-training questionnaires.
