Physical Therapy Residency Program

The Corewell Health - Southeast Michigan Residency Programs are designed to provide advanced training in their respective specialty area. All of the programs utilize our large hospital system in Southeast Michigan to provide the residents with a wide array of experiences and the chance to collaborate with a large multi-disciplinary team. Furthermore, our evidence-based didactic curriculums are supplemented by dedicated mentoring to foster strong clinical skills.

- Each residency is approximately 12 month in duration, starting each January and concluding in December. 

- The didactic curriculum is primarily delivered through Medbridge modules which is provided to the residents, with program specific additions as needed

- Each Resident will present a capstone project, as well as participate in journal club, grand rounds, and community service projects

- Each week 8-10 hours will be dedicated to patient care alongside a mentor, with an additional 1 hour of time to discuss cases

- Residents are considered full time employees of Corewell Health and are compensated at 100% rate based on experience and entitled to all employee benefits

- Each year our programs admit up to 2 residents.

Program Specific Information: Please note, this program utilizes Neuroconsortium as part of the didactic curriculum, and the resident would be responsible for obtaining this resource

Program Outcomes: As of February 2025, the Neurology Residency Program has a 100% graduation rate (4/4) with a 75% 1st time pass rate on the board exam (3/4)

Program Specific Information: The Corewell Health (formerly Beaumont Health) Oncology Program was the first in the nation in this specialty.

Program Outcomes: As of February 2025, the Oncology Residency Program has a 100% graduation rate (10/10) with a 100% 1st time pass rate on the board exam (10/10)

Program Specific Information: Please note, this program utilizes the Orthopedic Current Concepts as part of the didactic curriculum, and the resident would be responsible for obtaining this resource. Residents are entitled to a discount on this.

Program Outcomes: As of February 2025, the Orthopedic Residency Program has a 100% graduation rate (2/2) with a 100% 1st time pass rate on the board exam (1/1)

Program Specific Information: Please note, the completion of the APTA Pelvic Floor Level 1 or Hermann Wallace Pelvic Floor Level 1 is required prior to the start of the residency.

All 5 programs utilize the Residency and Fellowship Physical Therapy Centralized Application Service (RF-PTCAS) which opens June 1 of each year. Applications are due on September 1.

To be considered each application must include:

• The completion of the application form
• Program specific essays
• Resume/CV
• At least 2 letters of recommendation (for new graduates, 1 must be from a CI or professor)

In addition, all applicants are required to:

• Be a graduate of CAPTE-accredited physical therapy program
• Have a Michigan Physical Therapy License, or be able to obtain one by the start of the program
• Eligible for employment by Corewell Health
• A member of the APTA and program specific section by the start of the program
