The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health defines Reiki therapy as “a complementary health approach in which practitioners place their hands lightly on or just above a person, with the goal of directing energy to help facilitate the person’s own healing response. It’s based on an Eastern belief in an energy that supports the body’s innate or natural healing abilities.”
Reiki therapy is considered a low-risk intervention. Reiki is facilitated either with a light touch, or slightly off the body without touch, making it a beneficial therapeutic intervention. Reiki therapy has been offered at Corewell Health Integrative Medicine department since 2004.
Evidence-based outcomes of Reiki therapy include:
Level I & II Reiki training class, participants will experience an increased awareness of their physiological stress reactions and be able to utilize Reiki for their own stress-reduction and self-care, as well as facilitate Reiki therapy for others.
Level III curriculum includes a deeper understanding of the mind, body, and spirit connection and how to incorporate it when facilitating Reiki for others.
