If you’re turning 45, or older and have never been screened for colon cancer, you’re due.

You will need a doctor’s order or referral to schedule a colonoscopy. Send your doctor a message through MyChart or find a Corewell Health provider here.

Medical specialists agree, a colonoscopy is still the gold standard for detecting and preventing colon cancer. Any nerves or worry beforehand should not put off this life-saving test. Many people have said going through a colonoscopy was much easier than they thought. And depending on the results and other risk factors, this procedure might not be needed again for several years.

You have options

If your doctor decides you are at average risk for developing colon or rectal cancer, you might be eligible for an at-home stool (feces) test.

If your doctor has already mailed you a test check the box for the "Expiration" or "Use By" date. Complete the test if it is before the expiration date.

If you would like a Cologuard® or other fecal occult blood tests (FOBT), talk to your primary care doctor about this preference.
